Welcome to Cape Ommaney Lodge!

Thank you for your interest in our operation. We are located in SOUTH EAST ALASKA on the southern tip of Baranof Island in the very small fishing community of PORT ALEXANDER. In this site you’ll find some information about us as well as some photo's and our schedule and price sheets.

Happy New Year! We are taking reservations for our 2010 summer season. We have a priority permit issued by the US Forest Service to conduct personalized and custom trips onto the US Forest Service designated South Baranof Island Wilderness and the Tebenkof Wilderness on Kuiu Island as well as provide world class fishing trips in the teeming waters  of lower Chatam Straights and the Gulf of Alaska and their streams and rivers. We provide customized trips for your group depending on your specific interest whether it's Bear Photography, beach combing, Fly Fishing, Kayaking or hard core fish catching. If you are interested specifically in fishing you may want to schedule your fishing trip dates based on the type of salmon you’re interested in catching, Kings or Coho.  The bottom fishing for halibut and rockfish are very good anytime during   the summer season.

Mid June through mid July is when the Wild King Salmon are most abundant in numbers.  Silver Salmon or Coho's show up mid July and remain plentiful in the saltwater into September.  In addition to saltwater fishing for Silvers, stream fishing for Silvers begins mid August.  Halibut, Lingcod and numerous varieties of other species of bottom fish can be caught at any time of the summer.

Whether fishing or walking the streams full of salmon looking for bears, you’re surrounded by the most beautiful wilderness scenery on earth and amazing Alaskan sealife – Whales, Sea Otter, Sea Lions and Seabirds.  Between mid August and September we offer a world-class trip for viewing & photographing Brown and Black Bear in their natural habitat.  Our wild salmon streams are literally teeming with  spawning Salmon, an irresistible food source for the bears.  This time of year is ideal to get a look at the rare “Shiras” brown bear or a huge Island Black Bear.  A combination fishing/bear watching experience with our professional guides is unsurpassed.

Our waterfront lodge accommodates 6 guests in 4 different bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.  The lodge is self sufficient and has all the modern conveniences in a remote, pristine location, offering the best of both worlds.  We prepare fabulous meals featuring fresh locally caught seafood.  Special requests and diets are prepared for our guest with advance notice.

We operate a custom built  very comforatable “Sea Wolf” boat 35 feet in length,   All our trips are professionally guided by licensed and registered Captains and Guides. Top of the line equipment is furnished for your enjoyment. We have rubber boots and raingear at the lodge for you to eliminate your luggage and allow you to take home fish instead.

If you want to take fish home, it is processed, vacuum-sealed, blast frozen and boxed for you to travel with or to ship.  Because of our remote location, a limit of 2 boxes per fisherman is allowed (about 100 lbs!).

Port Alexander’s Cape Ommaney Lodge fishing, wildlife and scenery is about the best in Alaska and the only crowds that you will see are groups of Sea Lions, Whales, Fish and Bears We are very Remote with NO CROWDS!

Sincerely,
